Buttermilk Bourbon New Orleans Recipes with a Modern Flair Jason Santos 9781624146299 Books Reviews
- First of all...I have been waiting for this book...since I have been to Buttermilk & Bourbon!! My mouth waters when I think of the food!!!! Since I live in CT....I now have Chef Santos in my Kitchen!! Besides the chicken etc.....it's is balance of his glazes, syrup, sauces that are so easy to make and are AMAZING!!!!!! Bravo!! Donna Urso
- I’ve been waiting for months for this book and it finally is here and did not disappoint at all. Unlike most cookbooks, this one has so many recipes that a home chef would actually sit down to make. This book is extremely appealing to the reader.
- Big Flavor. Big Personality. Unforgettable Southern Cuisine...says it all. Had the pleasure of experiencing some of these dishes in his restaurant so when the cook book went on preorder I had to find out how to make the fried chicken and biscuits.
- Jason Santos’ restaurants are amazing and I’m excited I can make his recipes at home! If you’re looking for a new twist for your dinnas at home, buy this book!!
- Great recipes, easy to follow.
- I heard it's great so I bought one or two!
- Please take my rating with a grain of salt. Sometimes I'll select a cookbook based on curiosity and that's the case with "Buttermilk & Bourbon New Orleans Recipes with a Modern Flair" by Jason Santos. The pictures are great and the instructions are clear and nicely laid out. It definitely is a cookbook of regional food with some twists (ex jalapeno syrup).
That said, most of the recipes are out of my range. The ingredients are not readily available where I live (ex heirloom tomatoes are hard to find in my area) or it just seems like the recipes need a lot of time to prepare. As I've gone through the recipes, I think there is just one recipe that I could even attempt with items in my pantry at the present moment. That would be Southern Style Potato Salad although I don't have red wine vinegar and I'd have find a substitute for red bliss potatoes.
As such, I think the cookbook is for a specific audience who has the time and access to try these recipes. It definitely is for a household who knows their way around the kitchen a lot more than I. So for myself, this cookbook is about a 3-star but that is in the sense that it doesn't quite fit for me. - This book is full of southern style, New Orleans recipes. That being said, there are a lot of seafood recipes in here, so if you don't like seafood, you might be disappointed. I don't like seafood, but I found the other recipes to be intriguing. I actually made the biscuits and gravy that you see in the photo description for the book. They turned out fantastic. I used beef broth for my meat liquid. Most of these recipes are time consuming, so plan on spending some time in the kitchen. Some of them call for ingredients that are hard to find, but the biscuits and gray had easily accessible ingredients. This is a really unique book, with fun, and different recipes. Or, at least they are for me, as I am in the far north of the states, so I don't get any of that southern cooking.
